    Gabriel & Stephen Presnell were brothers. Their parents, Enoch Presnell and Sarah Elizabeth Salts, died in the 1850's. After they died their children lived with nearby neighbors until the Civil War started. The Presnell brothers Gabriel, Stephen, Isaac, Elijah, and Jeremiah all enlisted to serve in the war. Their youngest brother, Amos Richard Presley, tried to enlist but was turned away for being too young. All of the brothers died during the Civil War except for Amos who escaped the war zone with his oldest sister and went by train to Jeffersonville, IN.     Notes:

    Military Service in North Carolina.

    Listed under Capt. John Knight for three months against Cherokee Indians under General Rutherford.
    Continued to serve until discharged in 1779 or1780. Again volunteered as a substitute for Sam Brogden under Captain John Knight and Colonel Belfort's Regiment.

    In 1807 he is found living in Burke County, North Carolina (now Alexander County).
