Max Haak, 78, of Drakes Branch, Va., died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at his daughter's home in Palatka after a short illness.
The Bruning, Neb., native had lived in Drakes Branch for the past 27 years, coming from Palatka, where he lived for eight years. He had worked for eight years as an elevator mechanic with Hudson Pulp & Paper and retired after 20 years with the U.S. Navy, having been a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Eva Haak; parents: William and Ella Haak; two brothers: Rex Haak and Keith Haak; and a sister: Jean Loomer.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Tom Sykes of Palatka; and Donna and Todd Friesner of Perrysburg, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law: Jerry and Connie Haak of San Mateo; sister: Shyla Blasing of Sunnyvale, Calif.; brother: Orval Haak of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren: Michelle Haak, Jennifer Haak, Christopher Haak, Angela Strama, Joy Sykes-Johns, T.J. Sykes, Lee Sykes, Alex Friesner and Jacob Friesner; four great-grandchildren; his favorite outlaw: Sandra Marker of Green Bay, Va.; and special friends: Linard and Barbara Bayne of Fort Mitchell, Va.
